Description

OBM-Filtration Control is a high-quality grade of natural asphalt-based agents that is widely used in oil-based mud systems to minimize filtration and forming thin filter-cake in wellbore surface in high temperatures (up to 300 Fahrenheit degrees). OBM-Filtration Control is modified Gilsonite which is excellent filtration control in temperatures above 160 °F. It is soluble in crude oil in high temperatures, and increases emulsion stability of oil-based mud in different mud densities and oil/water ratios.

Advantages

  • Forming high quality filter cake on wellbore walls
  • Provides excellent filtration characteristics
  • Compatible with most types of regular oil-based muds
  • Easy to mix
  • Stable up to 300°F
  • Increase emulsion stability characteristic
  • Minimize filtration damage in reservoir formations

Applications

Main function of OBM-Filtration Control is lowering filtration properties in oil-based muds in order to minimize water loss, aids in emulsion stability and decrease the possibility of unwanted changes in drilling fluids’ parameters in high temperature wells. It can be used in workover and completion operations as well as drilling. It exhibits the best performance in temperatures above 275 °F, which dissolves in oil in shortest time.

Safety tips

FIRST AID MEASURES Eye Contact: This substance may cause eye irritation due to the abrasive action of the dust. The degree of the injury will depend on the amount of material that gets into the eye and the speed and thoroughness of the first aid treatment. Skin Contact: This substance is not expected to cause prolonged or significant skin irritation. This hazard evaluation is based on data from similar materials. Inhalation: Breathing the dust at concentrations that exceed the recommended exposure standard may be irritating to the respiratory tract. Signs and symptoms of respiratory tract irritation may include, but may not be limited to, one or more of the following: nasal discharge, sore throat, coughing, bronchitis, pulmonary edema and difficulty in breathing. Ingestion: Drink a couple of glasses water or milk. Do NOT induce vomiting unless directed to For more information please refer to OBM-Filtration Control Material Safety Datasheet.
